Government students started chapter 4. You need to get he notes entitled "Federalism" off the class wiki. We also turned in bellringers and chapter 4 vocabulary. I have opened the MBC assignment up so that you can resubmit if necessary. U.S. History students received a project. This is the Puoto Story project that is located on the class wiki. The Duroc I will use for grading is also on the wiki. You can see examples as well. This project is due October 12. Late projects will not be accepted.

Government: Students took a test on the Constitution and did chater 4 vocabulary today. The vocabulary words are located on the wiki and the Carver webpage. On the CHS webpage, look under the assignments tab. If you missed the test, you need to see me after school next week to make it up. Also, please remember that you assignment on political campaign platforms is due by this Sunday. You must submit it through My Big Campus. You also muct post on the discussion board.
U. S. History 11: We did review work for the Chapter 14 test. The re- test will be tomorrow. Also, you will be getting a project tomorrow. It is called the Turn of the Century PhotoStory project and you can see details, rubrics, and examples on the class wiki.

U. S. History 11- Today students did Bellringer #5: Analyzing Tabular Data, a biographical reading on Samuel Gompers, and Guided Reading 14-4. They turned in the guided reading activity, so if you were absent, you need to get one off the absentee board when you return and turn it in. They also turned in bellringers today. Your test on Chapter 14 is tomorrow. If you want to get ahead for the next chapter, your Chapter 15 vocabulary and lecture notes are already posted on the class wiki and my Carver webpage. You will be given a project this Friday entitled "Turn of the Century PhotoStory Project". The details of the project, the rubrics I will use for grading the project, and some examples of the project done by students last year are posted on the wiki. To find the project and rubrics on the Carver webpage, Look under "file manager". The due date for this project will be October 12th, NO EXCEPTIONS, NO EXCUSES. If you will not be here on that date, turn your project in early. If you have questions about it, do not wait until the last minute to ask me. Government- Students did a biographical reading on Thurgood Marshall, Worksheets 13 and 14 from "The Living Constitution" workbook, Interpreting the Bill of Rights, and a worksheet on the amendments. If you were absent you need to do and turn in The Amendments. Your test on the Constitution will be this Thursday. Your My Big Campus assignment and discussion posts are due by this Sunday at 10pm. At that time I will close the discussion and not allow the submission of any more assignments. Remember to post your answer to the discussion topic on YOUR class page in MBC, NOT on your wall. U. S. History:If you missed class today, you missed a quiz on Chapter 14, section 2. You may make this up before or after school next week. Remember progress reports go home next Thursday and if you haven't made it up you will have a zero in for this grade. We also took notes entitled "The Rise of Big Business". These notes are on the Carver webpage under the "presentations" link and on the class wiki. We will finish this chapter by Tuesday and your test on chapter 14 will be Wednesday. If you missed the video presentation and quiz on Tuesday, please make sure that your one page report on industrialization in America is turned in by Tuesday, September 25th. That is the ONLY way to make up a video quiz.
Government: Today we had a bellringer on the three branches of government. We turned in Vocabulary activity 3, which was given to you as homework yesterday. We also did worksheets 7 and 9 from "The Living Constitution" workbook. These worksheets are on the absentee bulletin board. Your test on the Constitution will be next Thursday. there is a possibility that you will not have an opportunity to have a re-take on this test, so please be prepared! make sure you check My Big Campus for information on your wiki project.

U. S. history students did a map activity and a primary source reading today. These are located on the absentee bulletin board. We also took notes entitled "The Growth of Railroads". You can find these on the class wiki or my Carver we page. You will have a quiz tomorrow on chapter 14 section 2. Government students did a vocabulary activity which they had to turn in. They also did an activity on how a bill becomes a law. Both of these are on the absentee bulletin board.

Government students today started their second set of bellringers with a bellringer entitled "The Three Branches of Government". We also did a partner activity involving the preamble to the Constitution. If you were not here you will have to do this activity on your own and turn it in. It is on the absentee bulletin board. U. S. History students watched a video called "Industrialization and Urbanization". If you missed it you will have to write a one page report on the American Industrial Revolution. This report is due next Tuesday. We also did Timeline Activity 14 and a Then and Now activity. These can be found on the absentee bulletin board. You will have a quiz Thursday on Chapter 14 section 2.

Government students had a test in chapter 2. If you missed it their will be a makeup opportunity on Tuesday. U.S. History students did guided reading 14-1 and vocabulary activity 14. If you were not in class these are on the absentee board. Make sure you get it when you return. Any wiki administrators who have not yet started their wiki need to see me on Monday. Also the first My Big Campus assignment is due for government students this weekend.

Picture DAY!
Because we were frozen in first period until noon today, I didn't get to see many of you. Just a couple of reminders: Government students have a test on chapter 2 tomorrow. Wiki administrators need to see me tomorrow so I can learn the status of your wiki. U. S. History students who made a "D" or an "F" on the chapter 13 test will have a re-test tomorrow. Also, chapter 14 vocabulary must be turned in as soon as you come into class.

September 12 class notes
U. S. history students took a test today on chapter 13. There will be a retest on Friday for any student who made a 'D' or an 'F' on the test. Students who made a 'C' or better will have an independent assignment for a minor grade. Your chapter 14 vocabulary is posted online and is due tomorrow. Government students completed chapter 2 and will have a test Friday. Tomorrow is school picture day. Students as allowed to dress out of uniform but may not wear revealing, tight, or obscene clothing. I'm not certain how long the schedule will be frozen in first period.

U. S. History students completed their study of chapter 13 and will have a test tomorrow. Government students read a biographical reading on Thomas Paine and completed a worksheet about the Constitutional Convention. There will be a quiz tomorrow on the Constitutional Convention. All Government students need to go onto My Big Campus and complete the first discussion assignment by this Friday. Your login information is as follows: username-- your student number in iNOW, password-- last four of SSN twice. If you are a wiki administrator, please create your wiki by tomorrow so that your group members can begin requesting membership. You must accept them then change their status to "organizer." If you need assistance from me on creating your wiki, please see me before or after school.

We will finish chapter 13 tomorrow and you will have a chapter test Wednesday. Please be prepared. Due to school picture day on Thursday we may not have a chance to re-test. Government students took notes entitled "Compromises at the Constitutional Convention." These notes can be found on the wiki and the webpage. You will have a quiz tomorrow on the Articles of Confederation. Please try to log in to My Big Campus. Let me know tomorrow if your login information isn't working. Wiki administrators need to start the wikis so that the group members can request membership. Once your group members request membership, you must accept their request then make them organizers. I have put your first assignment into MBC. You have until Friday to complete this assignment.

U. S. History students took a quiz today. Monday and Tuesday we will finish Chapter 13, and your chapter test will be Wednesday. Don't forget your Westward Wxpansion Map is due Tuesday. This is a homework grade. Those of you who missed the "Boom or Bust" video and video quiz must turn in a one page report on the California gold rush by Thursday. Government students had a bellringer and turned in their bellringers for a grade. We also read an excerpt from "Coomon Sense" and copied lecture notes entitled "The Articles of Confederation". These notes can be found on the "presentations" link on my Carver webpage or on the class wiki.

Government students please look at the Carver webpage "forms" link to view the rosters and group administrators for the 2012 Presidential Election Wiki project. You are now all listed in My Big Campus. In order to login, use your student number as the login name (that is the “S” number next to your name in iNOW). Their password is the same one they use to log onto the network. If you don't know your iNOW student number, please see me ASAP. Beginning on Monday, I will have all of you enrolled in the proper class perios in MBC and will have your first online discussion posted. Remember this is a new requirement from MPS. THIS IS NOT AN OPTION. You must complete 20 hours online in order to receive credit for completing this requirement. Those of you who have limited Internet access at home, please remember that I am at school by 7 am and I will stay until 3:30 for anyone who wants to use classroom computers. Also, the library is open from 7- 3:30 daily.

Government students, your homework is due tomorrow. If you have not yet evaluated one of the DNC speeches, make sure you do it tonight. Please look under the "forms" link on my Carver webpage to see your wiki group assignments. U. S. History students took notes entitled "Life on the Great Plains". These notes can be found under the "presentations" link on my Carver webpage, or on your class page on the wiki. We also did readings entitled "The Hard Life of Farmers" and "The Prairie Schooner". Today's bellringer was "The Frontier Closes". Because it is on SMART software, it's not online, so you'll have to get it from a classmate. The quiz originally scheduled for today has been pushed to tomorrow.

My apologies for neglecting to congratulate the members of the CHS football team for their tremendous victory over Prattville on yesterday's bloc post. Way to go, Wolverines! If you missed class today: U. S. History students did a bellringer entitled "Analyzing Historical Maps" and watched a documentary entitled "Boom or Bust" about the mining history of the west. If you were not in class you have until next Thursday to turn in a one page report on the subject of mining in the western U. S. in the 1800s. That is the ONLY way to make up this grade. U. S. History classes also have a homework assignment in which they have to construct a vertical bar graph tracing the growth of the gold mining industry. This is due the day after you return to class. There will be a Chapter 13 Section 2 quiz tomorrow. Government students did a vocabulary activity, a political cartoon, and a guided reading activity. All of these items are on the absentee bulletin board in class. We did not turn any of these items in. We also did Bellrinerg #4 entitlled "Government in a British Royal Colony". Do not forget that you must complete your speech analysis of a speech given during the Democratic National Conventiom amd turn it in by Friday.

If you missed class today , Government students were given another speech analysis to perform - this time on the Democratic national Convention. We also Went over the wiki project. You can find this assignment on the wiki or under the "forms" link on the Carver webpage. Bonus DNC question: what is the theme of the convention? Double bonus: what was the theme of last week's Republican national Convention? U. S. history classes wrote notes entitled " Miners and ranchers". These can be found on the class wiki and on the carver webpage. We also did guided reading 13-1 and turned it in. You will need to get this assignment off the absente bulletin board and turn it in ASAP.
